Ms. Char Sandberg

Licensed Professional Counselor | MA, LCPC

Char began working at Meier Clinics on the support staff while completing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College. Her clinical internship included work in adult and adolescent inpatient programs at Linden Oaks Hospital. In 1992, Char joined Meier Clinics as a therapist and continues to provide individual, family, and marital counseling for adult clients. She is currently licensed in the State of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Char defines her therapy approach as family-oriented and eclectic. Some of her treatment areas include the following:
Anxiety, Boundaries, Co-dependency, Communication, Depression, Divorce, Eating Disorders, Family Concerns, Fear, Grief/Loss, Identity, Life-Transitions, Marital Issues, Parenting, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Self Worth, and Social Anxiety
“Life is filled with many transitions- many painful ones with grief, disappointment, anxiety, and depression. Therapy is not just relief from symptoms but also a discovery of who you are and want to be. My goal as a therapist is to help my clients discover and uncover parts of themselves that get buried under difficult life challenges and transitions. ‘Co-dependency’ is described by me as lost selfhood and a distortion of true authentic relationships that God desires for all of us. The therapeutic relationship is a journey together, learning new strategies and coping skills in a safe, authentic space, and uncovering one’s hidden wholeness and unique self. I feel privileged to journey alongside clients as support, encouragement, and guidance.”
One of the most effective ways to manage stress, reduce anxiety and increase general well-being is Progressive Relaxation Therapy. Char has created a relaxation CD which was developed after providing relaxation therapy to her clients for many years.
Char was a “full time” stay-at-home mom for 18 years before embarking on her educational goals after age 40. During those years as a homemaker, she served in various church and community capacities with women and teens. She was active with Stonecraft Ministries as an Area Representative for 10 years and dedicated her time within Christian women’s clubs and councils telling her story and the spiritual journey of her life.
