I was born and raised in San Diego, California, to a mom and dad with poor skills (as only children) but loved each other in a dysfunctional way. Of course, that affected me to a degree, but my born again experience made an even greater impact. As early as 12 years of age I was aware of God’s call on life, eventually expressed in preaching, teaching, writing, coaching, pastoring and as a therapist and educator. My heart is to see hurting families become whole as they embrace God’s grace and truth. In the process of life I have married three wonderful women, two of which passed away while we were married, and Joan, my third wife, who has sadly buried two husbands, and between us we have 5 children and 5 grandchildren.
Professionally, I am the founder and President of Vision International University and Vision Publishing, which are worldwide ministries operating in over 150 nations. I have several academic awards, including the Bachelors in Psychology from San Diego State University, Masters in Counseling from Webster University, the Doctor of Philosophy in Counseling Psychology from the Professional School of Psychological Studies, a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Evangelical Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Letters from Omega Graduate School. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California, Certified School Psychologist, former U.S. Army Psychologist, with many clinical and professional memberships in various nationally known associations. Further, I have authored over 60 books in the fields of Counseling, Practical Ministry, Leadership and Biblical Studies. I have traveled in ministry and for fun to 85 nations, and hope to do more as the Lord allows.
