Hi, I’m Leah,
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York and Connecticut and am certified to practice in Florida. I have experience working with individuals, adolescents and families. I’ve worked in various capacities of the mental health field over the years, including middle school, high school, trauma focussed settings and private practice. I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, relationship issues, abuse recovery, religious trauma, and significant life transitions.
I take a multimodal approach to treatment in order to best fit each individual client’s situation and needs. I primarily utilize strategies of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), as well as integrating aspects of psychodynamic, emotionally focussed (EFT), and exposure therapy. I believe principles of diversity, inclusion and cultural understanding are close to God’s heart and therefore should be seen as essential priorities of the church.
For as long as I can remember my faith has been a central part of my life and identity. I was raised the daughter of a Presbyterian pastor and experienced many sides of what it means to be a part of the church. This is where my passion for helping and encouraging started, and ultimately led me to become a therapist.
While I still consider my faith in Christ to be pivotal to who I am and how I care for my clients, I also recognize that faith, religion and the church can be a significant source of trauma and pain. It is for this reason I believe so strongly in the importance and power of professional Christian counseling. This is not a place for deepening wounds but for finding healing. Whether you come from a Christian background and are now questioning what you believe or are living out of your faith as the foundation of your life and worldview, I would love the opportunity to walk through that journey with you!
