Mr. Michael Schlagel

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor | LCPC

I have been in private practice as a counselor for over 30 years. I work with individuals (children from age 5 and up, adolescents, and adults of all ages), couples and families. My style is relational and supportive, and I utilize more self-disclosure in therapy than some therapists, because I believe it levels the playing field and makes the client feel less alone. I am very straightforward and gentle and will tell you the truth as I see it. Because I am a sincere practicing Christian and I graduated from seminary, I am trained to work with issues of faith. I also did a one-year internship in a hospital with rotations in child/adolescent and adult psychology. My orientation in therapy is generally described as multi-modal, which means that in my practice I use a wide array of counseling theories, employing different techniques depending on the needs of a particular counseling session. I use a variety of theories because I believe that when you practice only one theory, the old adage “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail,” comes into play, and this isn’t as effective as having lots of tools in your toolbox.
