Larry L. French

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist | MA, LPC, LMFT

Seeing couples heal from their painful relationships is the most rewarding. In the past few years Larry completed Level III of John Gottman’s training. Having been a family therapist for a long time, he works extensively with families. Another population is working with blended families. Larry and his wife have four children, including two step-daughters and have found firsthand how complicated (and how rewarding) step-families are. He has found effective methods for treating anxiety and depressive disorders; this also applies to PTSD and OCD complications. He has worked extensively with addiction, from alcohol and drugs to the complex and heartbreaking consequences of sexual addiction. Larry served in the military for 4 years and understands the stressors of military life and how to treat PTSD. He is a counselor supervisor, providing supervision for counselors in training.

We provide video conferencing; called telehealth. We use confidential webcams to provide counseling. God has been so faithful to our practice here in Virginia. We have a group of Christian counselors that provide a professional relationship, accountability and collegial case reviews when needed. (There are many dangers inherit in a solo practice.) We approach our counseling from an “evidence based” understanding of effective treatment with a Christian “faith based” integration to our counseling. A Christian world view is essential. With this combination we see great things happen.

Larry has been associated with Focus on the Family since the mid-seventies. He completed his Masters Degree at APU and he was in private practice in Arcadia; in those early years, he provided supervision for a counselor at FOTF.

Larry has a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling and is licensed as a Professional Counselor and a Marriage and Family Therapist. His training in family systems and his many years of clinical and supervisory experience shapes his cognitive behavior approach to counseling. He works with individuals, adolescents, families and couples.
